Audience

Audience

How do people make sense of and give meaning to culture products?

Targeting an audience – Big movie company’s do massive research to find out what is best for their films.

Researchers use:

-          Surveys

-          Polls

-          Focus groups

-          Questionnaires

To share ideas, film and images to gain feedback.

Researchers may set up test screenings to gauge audience reaction to a film. Show your plans to people and see what they think.

When an audience consumes a product they bring many things with them. For example:

-          Upbringing

-          Lifestyle

-          Culture

-          Attitudes

-          Education

-          Emotions

-          Knowledge

-          Expectations – The main one we have to think about.

Psychographics and Demographics are both commonly used when looking at the target audience and these often help to separate the people who will watch it and the people who will not.

These are the sort off questions that need to be answered when making the film and most of these should be answered when you have the results for the questionnaire.
